Kat’s World 3

CLassic TV Commercials

August 26, 2008 · 6 Comments

I fell in love with a Nido TV commercial. It’s the one with Sharon Cuneta and daughters Frankie and Miel, singing that “You’re My Number One” song. The one-and-a-half-minute long commercial/music video shows mothers and children, smiling and laughing happily. It somehow gives that feeling that being a mom is the best thing in the world. It made me feel “Haaay! Ang sarap magkaanak!” and that’s saying something because I’m not exactly fond of children.

Now, my friends Shengka and Leizl and I tried to recall the most memorable TV commercials (as well as our favorites) back in the days when we actually watched TV. Here goes our list:

LUX—“Until Then”

Richard Gomez chases a black-haired beauty to the tune of Side A’s hit song. He sees her with another man and is heartbroken. He follows her and the man as they got into a car. Before she rolled up the window, she drops a note. Richard picks it up and it reads “He’s my brother.”

Richard’s long-haired lady love in the commercial, is, of course, Lucy Torres.

Until then, all I have is just a memory of you, that I can hold on to. Until then, all I have is just this luxury of time to wait and think of you, coz you’ll be on my mind, until then.”—Side A Band

JOLLIBEE— “Sa Jollibee, sigurado ka sa Jollibee?

A young Carmina Villaroel is going out on a date, but first, her dad interrogates the guy.

“San mo dadalhin ang anak ko?”

“S-sa Jollibee po.”

“Sa Jollibee? Sigurado ka sa Jollibee?”

I don’t remember how this ends. I think the whole family went to Jollibee or something. If you know this one, please do share. If you have it on Betamax, well, let’s hope it still works.

MILO—Olympic Energy

A young Bea Lucero tries to do a tricky gymnastic stunt, but repeatedly fails. The Milo song goes: “Great things start from small beginnings. Growing up, reach early for your dreams.”

Bea drinks Milo, then tries again. “Growing up with olympic energy, growing up with Milo!”

She successfully does the stunt. “Milo everyday!”

PALMOLIVE—I can feel it!

The TV Commercial that paved the way for Alice Dixson’s showbiz career. I luckily unearthed a video of this one from youtube:

PUREFOODS TENDER JUICY HOTDOGS—Goodbye Carlo

A chubby girl is in her bedroom, writing on her diary.

“Dear Diary, Carlo sat beside me today. Sabi niya, I’m pretty, kaya lang, I’m fat. I eat too much kasi eh. Kaya mula ngayon, goodbye chocolates, goodbye spaghetti, goodbye hotdogs!”

She looks at a plate of hotdogs next to her, gets one, and says “Goodbye Carlo!”

NESTLE ICE CREAM—”Sinong best friend mo doon?”

Two young boys are sad as one of them is moving out of the neigborhood. They eat nestle ice cream. Just as the family car of the boy moving out was about to leave, the other boy yells “Sinong best friend mo doon?”

To which he replies “Syempre ikaw lang!”

 KITKAT—-”Have a break.”

A photographer waits patiently outside some animal’s shelter, ready to take pictures. After a long time he gets tired, sits down, and eats a Kitkat chocolate bar. Just as he turned he back, two pandas came out and dance around in roller skates! The pandas go back inside just as the photographer finished his snak and posed to take pictures again.

“Have a break, Have a Kitkat.”

JOLLIBEE—Umaga, Tanghali, Gabi

When Jollibee launched their breakfast meals, a commercial/music video was made with VIna Morales, Donita Rose, and Geneva Cruz (I think), the stars of the then hit movie Campus Girls. They sang the mous song:

Umaga, tanghali gabi
Ikaw, ako, magkatabi
I have to say Oh can’t you see
I kay ang aking 143….”

Then Aga Muhlach goes: “I Love You Jollibee!!!

SPRITE—Are you in heat?

Ryan Agoncillo—sprite in hand—gets into an elevator followed by a beautiful girl.

VO: Nakasabay mo ang crush mo sa elevator, nang biglang….

The lights go out, the elevator stops.

VO: Anong gagawin mo?Magpakatotoo ka!

Ryan’s Mind: Ang init no? Sprite o?

(He decides the line’s not cool)

Ryan: Ahm, miss, are you in heat?

Girl: What?

Ryan:AHm, ibig ko sabihin, nag-iinit ka na ba?

The elevator doors open, revealing an angry girl and a newly-slapped Ryan.

Another on in this magpakatotoo ka series is with Toni Gonzaga and her famous “I Loooove you PIOLOOOOO!” line.

COKE—Ito ang beat sabay sabay:

PLDT NDD—Suportahan taka.

This is just the first part. More to come, but I now gotta work—darn trainees!!
