A female employee of the Philippine Long Distance and Telecommunications company (PLDT) committed suicide at noon today when she jumped to her death from the 15th floor of the PLDT Ramon Cojuangco Building along Makati Avenue, Makati City.
The woman has been identified as Dalisay Gatab, 39, married with children, and a native of Bocaue, Bulacan. She worked in the company as a project cost analyst. Gatab was said to have suffered from an illness, and her husband recently lost his job.
According to witnesses, Gatab ate lunch on the fifth floor of the building. She received a phone call and engaged in a long conversation. After that she went to the comfort room on the 15th floor and jumped from one of the windows there. A certain Engr. Noel Cruz tried to stop her from jumping, but failed.
Her colleagues were shocked with her sudden death as she didn’t show any signs of depression.
As Scene of the Crime (SOCO) operatives and the Makati police are investigating the incident, they are still not ruling out foul play. Makati Police Department (MPD) chief Sr. Supt. GIlbert Cruz said they are still investigating who Gatab last talked with.
Well, that’s all I know as of now.
I’ll keep updating this post as the facts start coming in.

oh my…that’s tragic! it really leaves me numb sometimes hearing someone committing suicide.sobra.
i seriously hope her family’s fine..although duh! the way she died?fine? … recuperate perhaps from the incident…ill pray for her really…
sometimes, at my ‘this-world-was-never-meant-for-one-as-beautiful-as-me moments’, id toy at the idea of committing such act,but maisip ko baka ma balian lang ako ng buto at mabuhay na walang paa … a failed attempt of suicide and still remain in this world would be so much more tragic.

It reminded me of a someone named Maningning.

People who kill themselves see this as the only remaining solution to their problems. People differ in their ability to handle the troubles that cause such desperate feelings. Many find it difficult to recognize and solve personal problems in a calm and ordered way. Researchers believe this inability to cope may be connected to biological and chemical imbalances.

very tragic indeed! when depression leads to committing suicide. kaya magblog na lang sila noh kat. at least pede pa ilabas ang sama ng loob dito.

it was really a tragic ending to someone described as a “jolly person” by her peers. sana naman don’t judge her outrightly just because of what she did or how she chose to end everything. hindi pa alam kung bakit nya nagawa yon. her friends and colleagues have no inkling that she’ll do that. in fact she left some money to her friends dahil she’ll be celebrating her bday sometime this month.

Such a sad tragedy really.
Tayo talaga kahit kelan, di maalis ang chismisan hahaha. Uunga naman, we can never tell, ano kaya talaga ang nangyari?
Baka may tumulak sa kanya o kaya pinakulam (diba, Juday?) sya at di ito nakayanan? Hahaha.
In HK it’s very common, if a person jumped off the building, people normally assumed, it’s financial or mentally disturbed due to financial dilemmas.

…. naku baka nag bo-blog din sya? Baka dun meron syang last “post” about the suicide?

Ninety percent of the people who commit suicide have a mental or substance abuse disorder (or both). More than half of the people who kill themselves are seriously or clinically depressed. Although most depressed people are not suicidal, most suicidal people are depressed. Serious depression is considered a medical illness by the World Health Organization. Serious or major depression is a long-lasting sadness that doesn’t let up for two weeks or more.

Baka may mental illness yung tao or maybe she was suffering from an incurable disease
Too bad because I think insurance companies don’t treat suicide as natural or accidental death kaya BAKA walang makukuha yung family niya.
I saw something like that on CSI—a guy made it look like he was murdered (but he really did commit suicide) so that his younger brother can get money from the insurance company. A very big sacrifice, but the investigators found out the truth so the brother got nothing because suicide isn’t covered by the older brother’s insurance. I do hope PLDT would extend help to Mrs. Gatab’s family.

well, all i can say is — let’s not comment something negative to her death. kasi first, we don’t know her personally. maybe yes, we might think na we cannot do such a thing. but what if we’re really in her position w/ the same emotion as hers? we’re all different kasi eh, every person has his/her different way to handle problem. & psychologically speaking, meron talagang person na may suicidal tendency once faced emotional distress. and for sure, she’s one of those. i first learned the news from a friend who used to work from PLDT and as i was told, masayahin syang tao. kahit na meron syang problema, she could still manage to smile & it’s hard to do that ha. di lang nya siguro ugali magkwento ng personal life kaya siguro yesterday, after talking to somebody on the phone, “pwede” na di nya kinaya whatever happened or whatever she might heard on that conversation. she’s a professional, she’s an engineer pa nga and her job is a project cost analyst. so for a married woman with a child, it’s hard to think of suicide unless, she had not get any chance to realize what she thought to do sa sobrang bigat na ng problem nya. so let’s still respect her na lang kahit na what she did is not right. we still could not judge her.

oh well,, i was deeply saddened hearing such stories as this… suicide was never a solution, but just start of a unending pain, crashing of bones, burning to the point of gnashing of teeth, because eternal suffering at hell… (i know some here understand this knowing for a fact that anyone who committed suicide will directly suffer at hell ).. haaay,, kakalungkot,,, sana foul play na lng ngyari… but enihow, sana malaman ng mga taong mag-aattempt p lng, na suicide was never a solution, there still hope, God will always be there, He is just waiting for you to approach Him… ;;)
HardDiskDrive // October 24, 2008 at 4:06 am |
i’m wondering… covered kaya ng insurance niya ang suicide? (meron bang ganun?) if so, then i’d say she didnt die for nothing. … 5 kids, jobless spouse…. she chose to die so her family could live. cost analysis, that is what she does best. we couldn’t argue with her. and we’re all going to die anyway, why procrastinate? … not everyone is that brave to take that sacrifice.
it just disturbs me that my religion condemns suicide when i know Someone got crucified with his full knowledge and didn’t act against it. one way or another, isn’t that suicide too?

“An female employee of the Philippine Long Distance and Telecommunications company (PLDT) committed suicide at noon today when she jumped to her death from the 15th floor of the PLDT Ramon Cojuangco Building along Makati Avenue, Makati City”
-ANONG AN FEMALE?!?!?! BAKA “A FEMALE”, RIGHT? AYUSIN MO GRAMMAR MO HA BAGO KA MAGPOST NG BLOG MAY PICTURE MO PA…
Ooops, my mistake. My first sentence originally started as “An employee of the Philippine…….,” and I inserted the word female when I updated it a while ago, thus the error. I have erased that troublesome “n” now, and I do hope you’ll be able to sleep well now that a mistake of enormous relevance to the issue at hand has been corrected.

To you Von….Upon reading your comment, I thought you were intellectual. Pathetic ka pala. You never even know the real reason why that woman committed suicide, yet, you had the nerve to make fun of her death?! Such a stupid comment. Really! If it so happened that this lady is my friend, I will hunt you down. Pea-brain!

Suicide is the way of the coward. I’m not being judgemental but I am just sharing my thoughts (baka kasi may naencourage na dito na OK lang mag suicide pag malaki na ang problema, hehehe).
Ako, I also think of jumping off a building but I don’t really intend to fly. I wanted to float (maybe I’d try bunjee jumping, hehehe).
I’m from ePLDT Ventus, a subsidiary of PLDT and I was dumbfounded by the news. What made her take her life? Life may seem to be unpretty but if you’d take a look at it’s bigger picture, you’d see that somehow, there are beautiful things in it, things that will make life worth living. Pag may problems ka, it’ll be tough especially if you face it alone, if you don’t utilize and realize what resources you have, life would seem hopeless and we may tend to just give up and kill ourself. or Maybe Ice has a point that maybe the issue that she is facing right now is too much for her to handle. But then again, God (if you believe in God) will not give us burden that is beyond our capacity. I’d also like to think that there is still a way to solve her problem, but as human (disregarding the psychologically impared ones), we tend to choose “the easy way out.” Please note, I’m not judging her. I just feel sorry for her kids and husband that she choose a poor solution to her problem. I feel bad because I feel that she felt alone so she jumped off the building. I’m happy because we who heard about this awful news has something to learn.
@Egay: What an experience.
@HardDiskDrive: Di covered ng insurance yun.
StealthAssassin // October 24, 2008 at 3:46 pm |
@Neil: I also heard about Maningning’s suicide.
While I was thinking of comitting a suicide by strangling my self to death, (yes, you read it right, not hang my self but strangle my self, using my own hands. You should know that I’m just kidding. Hehehe)
Very dramatic, tragic, awesome. I dunno, parang if it’s a movie, it’s a nice way for a character to kill her self. From one of the articles that I read, the roof where she fell of formed something like wings around her.
But then again, I feel sorry that she died. It could have been the two of us, Lolz. She’s very talented and pretty. How could an angel like her take her own life (she must have realized that her future is with me, perhaps? Hehehe)
Hmm… “How could an angel take her own life away…” Teka, gawa lang muna ako ng kanta.
^_^;
HardDiskDrive // October 24, 2008 at 6:56 pm |
now that made me want to get back on our company’s agent if there’s any truth about suicide being covered in our insurance. he surely must just be kidding when he said we’re getting only 50% of what we’re supposed to get if c.o.d. is natural. for yearsss i DIDN’T want to know… whew! itchy.
pardon me for i must have been irresponsible in my post for unconsciously suggesting that sometimes it’s ok for people to commit suicide .but hey… at least i’m not the one making them heroes or saints.
(it feels odd i had to check my speeling and gramnar here)

@Stealth: I’m from Ventus as well. I pity her.
stealthassassin // October 27, 2008 at 5:31 pm |
@tempt: ok lang mag work, get under paid. just don’t choose the easy way out once you feel that the situation you are in is more than you can handle. There are other companies out there na pede ko lipatan. With my experience and skills, I’m sure I can find a better company than Ventus. I’ve been here for 5 years na, going six. I have reasons kung bakit ako nag i-iistay (and salary is not one of it). PATIGASAN NA LANG KAMI NG VENTUS. nyahahaha!
We all know that it doesn’t make that sense. Your message is more important than spelling or grammar (unless spelling and grammar creates noise dun sa message mo). Cheers!
hmmmm, i was actually hired by Ventus but I was immediately asked for a medical examination so I didn’t show up. good thing.

Greatneil // October 30, 2008 at 7:48 am |
i know the reasons.
stealthassassin // October 30, 2008 at 2:59 pm |
@Greatneil: Talaga?!
I’m really sorry for her family.
